Member support

~45%. Voluntary monthly support from individuals and families. The largest and most important source - and the one that keeps us free to read.

Local sponsorship

~35%. Section sponsors, newsletter sponsors, and clearly-labeled Spotlight features from Alliance businesses and institutions.

Local Index Partners

~12%. Premium listings in the curated Local Index.

Civic underwriting

~8%. Project-based support from civic partners for specific programs, such as Open Questions. Never tied to coverage.

Editorial independence

Editorial decisions sit entirely with the editors and are walled off from funding. No funder receives advance review of stories. We publish this breakdown, and update it, because a publication asking the city to be transparent should hold itself to the same standard.
